A Mexican immigrant
who had sued Park County, Colorado officials for medical neglect
during a 2003 detention in the county jail has reached a settlement
with defendants and asked a District Court in Denver to dismiss the
lawsuit (Civil Action No. 05-cv-00377-WDM-BNB).
Under the settlement, Park County’s insurers
will pay $1.5 million to Moises Carranza-Reyes, and he will drop his
complaint against the individual Park County officials and employees
named in the suit. Park County’s insurers made the decision to
settle this matter.
Neither Park County nor any of its officials or
employees admit any liability and have denied Carranza-Reyes’s
charges.
While no party may discuss the settlement,
pleadings in the case are public record.
Mr. Carranza-Reyes was represented by Bill
Trine of Trine & Metcalf, P.C. in Boulder; Lloyd Kordick of Lloyd C.

Denver; and Adele Kimmel of Public Justice, the national public
interest law firm based in Washington, D.C.
Andrew Ringel of Hall & Evans LLC in Denver,
and Josh A. Marks of Berg, Hill, Greenleaf & Ruscitti in Boulder,
