SUMMARY:Symposium: Enhancing Anti-Discrimination Laws In Employment & Education
DESCRIPTION:The Institute is excited to partner with the American University Washington College of the Law Journal of Gender\, Social Policy & Law for the upcoming virtual symposium “Enhancing Anti-Discrimination Laws In Employment & Education.” \nThe symposium’s central question will focus on: What changes are needed in the law to increase equity and diversity in our workplaces and educational institutions? \nLeading legal thinkers will explore the key changes necessary for the law to be more responsive to those facing historical and structural subordination\, current implicit biases\, and other forms of oppression\, both blatant and nuanced. These forces are obstacles to true equity. SUMMARY:Preemption & Daubert Webinar: 9th Circuit Upholds Access to Justice in Hardeman v. Monsanto
DESCRIPTION:Public Justice Senior Attorney Leslie Brueckner will be among the panelists  in a webinar discussing our and our co-counsel’s landmark defense of Hardeman v. Monsanto in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. \nIn the Spring of 2019\, a unanimous jury awarded Edwin Hardeman an $80 million verdict\, finding that his cancer was caused by Roundup and by Monsanto’s failure to warn of the known dangers of its product. Monsanto challenged this verdict on the grounds of preemption and Daubert\, and the 9th Circuit rejected all of Monsanto’s arguments. The panel will discuss the details of Hardeman v. Monsanto\, Monsanto’s appeal\, and how this 9th Circuit ruling will affect future cases. \nRegistration is $99 for AAJ members. Click here or below to register.
