Randy Chen

Food Project Staff Attorney

Randy Chen is a Food Project Staff Attorney with Public Justice in Washington, D.C. His work focuses on impact litigation to support communities harmed by the industrial animal agricultural system and promote sustainable alternatives.

Prior to joining Public Justice, Randy served for three years as a trial attorney at the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General, where he played a founding role in building the office’s workers’ rights enforcement practice. In developing this practice, Randy advanced the rights of D.C. workers through affirmative civil litigation, originated numerous complex cases on behalf of workers victimized by wage theft and worker misclassification, and successfully settled the first multimillion dollar wage theft lawsuit in the office’s history. In addition, Randy also served as lead counsel on multiple consumer lawsuits against technology companies relating to emerging issues in data privacy and the gig economy. Before entering public service, Randy was a litigation associate at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

Randy holds a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and a B.S. from Duke University. Prior to law school, Randy was a public school teacher in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He is barred in the District of Columbia and New York.
