Michael Skocpol is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Access to Justice Project, based in Washington, D.C. He litigates high-impact cases in state and federal court, with the goal of making sure regular people can have their day in court. He has experience with both trial and appellate litigation across a wide range of legal issues, and a passion for tackling complex issues that too often stand in the way of justice for workers, consumers, and people whose civil rights have been violated.
Before joining Public Justice, Michael litigated complex consumer and civil rights cases as Counsel at a plaintiff-side appellate firm; a wide variety of racial justice and anti-discriminationissues as an Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF); and public interest and commercial matters as an associate at a litigation boutique. He has also taught advanced legal writing and practice as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center.
Before entering practice, Michael clerked for the Honorable Gary Feinerman of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the Honorable Cornelia Pillard of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; and the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Supreme Court.
Michael received his J.D. with pro bono distinction from Stanford Law School. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University.
Michael is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. He is also a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, seven U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
