“Working hard to save the trees Is my responsibility. I know what I must do. I gotta leave the world better than the one I came into.”Becca’s Song, from Redwood
“In wildness is the preservation of the world.” Henry David Thoreau

America’s wild spaces are places of refuge and renewal. We all have the responsibility – and power – to protect them.

A clean, livable planet is a fundamental human right. At Public Justice, we empower citizens to defend our planet and its unique ecosystems from exploitation and corporate greed to ensure future generations have a sustainable environment in which to live and thrive. Our attorneys combine legal expertise with the dedication and perseverance of local communities, providing everyday people with the extraordinary power to hold corporations directly accountable. This is our planet, and we want to help you protect it.

We were proud to help secure a decades-in-the-making court victory that permanently protects 355 acres of old growth forest in coastal Oregon from logging, providing critical habitat for future generations of Marbled Murrelets, who frequently return to the exact old growth branches where they were born to nest their offspring.

Working with Cascadia Wildlands and nature enthusiasts we took action when the state of Oregon sold the land and trees that the Murrelets call home to the highest bidder: A timber company that planned to cut the forest.

We took the timber company to court – and we won.

Our victory for the Murrelets is just one example of “citizen suits” that allow everyday Americans to push back on polluters, logging companies and industrial facilities that threaten our most precious places and our ability to enjoy the country’s natural resources. By partnering with concerned citizens and community groups from across the country, Public Justice has forced companies that dump toxic waste in our waters, release harmful chemicals into our air, and move into rural and wild lands to taint and destroy pristine places, to clean up their act and stop their assault on sensitive areas.

Together, we can help preserve the country’s wild places. Here’s what you can do:

  • Sign up for Public Justice’s newsletter and stay up to date on our efforts to combat polluters and others working to destroy our natural places.
  • Make a donation in support of our Environmental Enforcement Project, which provides legal representation – and legal firepower – to those fighting to preserve our water, air and unspoiled lands.
  • Watch this video about other work we’ve done to ensure future generations have access to spaces to enjoy, relax and heal.
