Families for Asbestos Compliance, Testing and Safety (FACTS) v. City of St. Louis, Missouri

We filed this citizen suit on behalf of Bridgeton, Missouri, residents against the City of St. Louis and Lambert-St. Louis International Airport for violating the Clean Air Act by  demolishing buildings laden with deadly asbestos, using the illegal and experimental “wet method” of asbestos removal.  The federal district court found the City liable for 99 violations of the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air pollutants (NESHAP) by failing to remove the asbestos in 99 residential and commercial buildings prior to demolition.
Public Justice’s Environmental Enforcement Project Director Jim Hecker was co-counsel with Richard Miller of Kansas City, MO; Scott Frost and Ben DuBose in Dallas; and Bruce Morrison in St. Louis.
