Brown v. District of Columbia

Brown v. District of Columbia

Amici brief urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to protect a prisoner’s right to hold a private corporation accountable when its employees violate a prisoner’s constitutional rights.

Public Justice submitted an amici brief urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to protect a prisoner’s right to hold a private corporation accountable when its employees violate a prisoner’s constitutional rights.

The brief was filed on behalf of Herbert Brown, a prisoner who alleges that the District of Columbia and Corrections Corporation of America denied him adequate medical care.

In February 2008, the appeals court issued a decision that did not reach the issue addressed in Public Justice’s brief, but reversed the dismissal of the prisoner’s claim against the District of Columbia.
