Ayala v. Antelope Valley Newspapers, Inc.

Ayala v. Antelope Valley Newspapers, Inc.

Public Justice joined an amici brief to the California Supreme Court arguing that a group of newspaper delivery workers who claimed they were misclassified as independent contractors should be allowed to pursue litigation against their alleged employer as a class action.  The brief was authored by the Impact Fund on behalf of a coalition of 14 public interest organizations interested in protecting workers’ rights.  The brief explains why misclassification cases are amenable to class treatment and why the class action mechanism is essential to combat rampant independent contractor misclassification in sectors dominated by low-wage and immigrant workers.
