“Corporate Immunity Bill” Would Let Investment Firms Steal Money from Workers’ Retirement Accounts

Hundreds of thousands of middle-class American workers will directly benefit from a settlement which has put $78,000,000 back into their retirement accounts—money which, over time, will grow to a much larger amount in the tax-sheltered 401(k) accounts. But under a new bill pending in Congress, a victory such as this one would be rendered virtually impossible.

Taking on Congress to Preserve Class Actions

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed H.R. 985, the so-called “Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act.” This sweeping legislation would make it virtually impossible to bring a class action lawsuit, effectively locking the courthouse doors to millions of Americans. The final vote in the House represented a very narrow victory (220 – 201), setting the stage for a real battle in the United States Senate.
